New beds for new seeds

We needed space for the seeds we exchanged on the marked last weekend. So we cleared more blackberries, which leave very good soil behind, as all the plants they overgrow are decomposing underneath.

We used the vines of the blackberries and a few logs of cork oak to creat a new “hügelbeet”.

Our potatoes plants are growing good. We have ca. 18 m² bed for potatoes. That’s not enough for our family’s needs, but it’s a good beginning. We planted them in different conditions; more or less deep dug, with or without mulch, with beans in between… We will see the results in a couple of weeks!

Courgettes, onions, peanuts… are now new in the garden. Tomatoes are still under plastic bottles, as the nights are close to 0°C. Paprikas, aubergines, broccolis, salads… are in the seedling bed and we seed some corn for the “Milpa” bed (a crop-growing system used throughout mesoamerica; inter-cropping between corn, beans and pumpkin)
